Audi Quattro successor coming in 2015

In 2015, Audi plans on introducing a successor to the Quattro. According to a new report from AutoBild, Audi is developing the model under the Q35 codename and will most likely slot the car between the TT and the R8.
The Q35 name is being used as the codename as Audi plans on unveiling the model on the Quattro’s 35th anniversary in March 2015.
Unlike the concept, the model could be crossover-coupe with two doors that seats four passengers.
Power is likely to come from a 2.5 liter 5-cylinder turbo engine making 375-hp. The engine will be mated to a S tronic dual-clutch transmission that allows the car to go from 0 to 62 in just over 4 seconds.
Production will be limited to 10,000 units annually.

by on Sep.26, 2012, under Auto Review Specs, Cars, Chevrolet Car Reviews

General Motors South Africa announced today that it will be launching the new Trailblazer into the South African market before the end of this year.

The Trailblazer will be an all new entry for General Motors South Africa in the large Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) segment of the market, says Malcolm Gauld, Vice-President of Sales and Marketing for General Motors South Africa. “This great product will further strengthen our Chevrolet product portfolio offering which has rapidly expanded over the past two years. The response from customers has been very favourable with our Chevrolet sales volumes growing by over 50% in 2011 versus 2010.”

The Trailblazer, which is Chevrolet’s toughest and most refined SUV, made its global debut last year at the opening of the Dubai International Motor Show in the Middle East. “We are very excited about the addition of the Trailblazer into our already strong line up of Chevrolet products in the South African market.”

The Trailblazer is a robust seven-seater SUV, providing superior third row seating, exceptional ride comfort and a modern and fresh design. The vehicle combines the hauling and towing capability of a body-on-frame SUV with the ride comfort and efficiency of a crossover.  Gauld said that the Trailblazer model line-up and pricing would be announced closer to the time of launch.

Chevrolet has recently launched a string of new products, namely the third generation Chevrolet Utility, the Sonic Hatchback (including a diesel model), Sonic Sedan and Captiva Diesel model. “Since its launch in July last year, the Chevrolet Orlando, has already gained a 24% share of the MPV segment,” emphasised Gauld.

BMW has revealed its latest TwinPower petrol and diesel engines

by on Sep.26, 2012, under Auto Review Specs, Bmw Car Reviews, Cars

BMW has revealed its latest TwinPower petrol and diesel engines, a turbocharged 1.5-litre three-cylinder unit designed for a forthcoming range of compact front-drive models due in late 2013.

Also likely to serve in both the next Mini and as a preliminary power source for the i8 plug-in hybrid sports car, the tiny triple joins the closely-related 2.0-litre four-cylinder and 3.0-litre six-cylinder ‘Efficient Dynamics’ engines that power the majority of the current  BMW  range. As reported today, BMW’s front-drive Compact Active Tourer plug-in hybrid will feature this engine alongside a small electric motor when it makes its public debut at the Paris motor show on September 27.

The 1.5-litre engines are said to feature an unsurpassed degree of commonality, sharing up to 60 per cent of components and designed to be built on the same production line for the first time, allowing BMW to streamline its manufacturing and cut development costs.  BMW says this strategic commonality – similar to programs undertaken by the likes of Volkswagen and Volvo – is a key factor in the expansion of its current portfolio, likely pointing the future range of front- and all-wheel-drive compacts.

The new family of engines is based upon optimised cylinder modules, each with a capacity of about 500cc, designed for thermodynamic efficiency and smooth operation – the latter trait is said to carry over to the “remarkably smooth” 1.5-litre triple.

BMW claims the petrol can develop anywhere between 90kW/180Nm and 150kW/270Nm, while the diesels will produce between 75kW/225Nm and 135kW/300Nm.

All BMW’s TwinPower engines use an aluminium block, double Vanos infinitely variable cam-control, Valvetronic variable cam-timing and direct injection, with the option of single- twin- or triple-turbochargers. The automatic transmission to be available with this engine has been “given the gift of site”, using data from the navigation system to plot the course ahead and make suitable adjustments in advance rather than on-the-fly.

Special Tribute to late Carroll Shelby – 2013 Shelby GT500 Cobra

by on Sep.26, 2012, under Auto Review Specs, Cars, Ford Car Reviews

FRIENDS of Ford performance car legend, Carroll Shelby, have built a special 2013 Shelby GT500 Cobra as a tribute to the late mechanical maestro. Cobra has been the consistent performance label as Shelby worked with Ford for most of the last 60 years, and Shelby was instrumental in the creation of Ford performance vehicles including Cobras, the GT40 and Mustangs since the mid-1960s.
The tribute car was unveiled by Ford Motor Company board member Edsel Ford II, at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion where Cobra was the marque of show for 2012.

The tribute car uses a 662 horsepower (494kW) 2013 Shelby GT500 as a foundation, “Friends of Carroll” created the one-of-a-kind 2013 Shelby GT500 Cobra wide-body Mustang that now generates more than 850 horsepower (634kW) with the help of a Ford Racing 4.0-litre Whipple supercharger.  Putting that much power to the ground requires plenty of traction, so the 13-inch-wide rear wheels are wrapped in massive 345-section high-performance tyres.
Ford Motor Company teamed up with Shelby American for several key components on the car. Shelby American provided a specially designed bonnet, new rear wide-body kit, Shelby Wilwood brakes and new 20×13-inch rear and 20×10-inch front wheels. The bodywork is finished in the same Guardsman Blue with Wimbledon White stripes that graced so many of the Cobra roadsters built in the 1960s.
