New Jags Released

British automaker Jaguar is planning a host of changes for its premium sedans, among them new engines, transmission tweaks and styling upgrades.

Jaguar will introduce its new XF Sportbrake and new XJ by the end of 2012.

The XF sedan will also benefit from engine upgrades and a new range-topping XFR speed pack which will raise the vehicle’s speed limiter.

Powered by a range of powerful diesel engines, the new XF Sportbrake marks the debut of the automaker’s new diesel engine derivatives. The engine, based on the 2.2 diesel unit, is capable of 110kW/147kW, the latter replacing the current 139kW engine.

According to Jaguar, the new diesels have CO2 emissions ratings from 135g/km and a claimed fuel consumption of four litres/100km (combined cycle).

Topping the range will be a three-litre turbocharged V6 diesel tuned to deliver 176kW/202kW in the Diesel S derivative. Each variant emits 163g/km of CO2 and is capable of a claimed fuel consumption of 5.1km/l (combined cycle).

The diesel S variant can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 6.1 seconds, the 176kW variant in 6.7.

250KW XJ

Jaguar has announced details of its 2013 XJ and the new model benefits from a new engine, improved suspension and style upgrades.

Powering the new model will be a three-litre supercharged V6 to replace the current five-litre V8; it can manage 250k/450Nm and drives an eight-speed ZF transmission with stop/start as standard. The new XJ is expected to achieve five litres/100km while emitting 159g/km of CO2, a 14% improvement over the current model.

The automaker has improved suspension and performance with re-calibrated springs and remapped damper software.

Inside, the new XJ will have the 20-speaker Meridian audio system. The XJ range also includes Sport and Speed packs which boosts performance and styling. A new “Ultimate” model upgrades the interior and has unique exterior styling.

The XF sedan will benefit from the new 2.2 diesel engines. Both the standard and Sportbrake’s engines will be mated to an eight-speed auto and stop/stop

will be standard.

Pricing for the new XF diesel will be around the rand equivalent of R391 000 but expect prices to be higher when the new model is imported to South Africa.

The XF range will also feature the brand’s Meridian audio system which replaces the current Bowers and Wilkins system.

For those with a need for speed, Jaguar introduces its new XFR Speed Pack. The 375kW XFR Speed Pack is equipped with revised engine and gearbox calibration allowing Jaguar to raise the speed limiter raised to 280km/h. The Speed Pack also adds a front aero splitter a new rear wing.

The automaker’s new 250kW three-litre supercharged V6 petrol engine, which will power the new F-Type, replaces the unblown 5.0 V8 in the XF range. The V6 unit is capable of sprinting from 0-100km/h in 5.7 and has a limited top speed of 249km/h. Jaguar claims its new engine has a fuel economy of 7.8 litres/100km (combined cycle).
