Ford Fiesta remains bestseller in Europe and number two in its class in South Africa

The Ford Fiesta was the No.1 selling small car in Europe in the first quarter of 2014 with 85,639 Fiestas sold.

`Ford Fiesta just keeps getting stronger. After two consecutive years as Europe`s best-selling small car, Fiesta sales for the first three months of 2014 have actually risen by 10 per cent year-over-year,` said Roelant de Waard, vice president, Marketing, Sales and Service, Ford of Europe. `Many customers are choosing high specification models equipped with the latest technology, including our in-car connectivity system Ford SYNC and award-winning 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine.`

Of all Fiesta models sold so far this year in Europe:

80 percent were equipped with Ford SYNC voice-control connectivity system

47 percent were high specification Titanium models

29 percent were equipped with 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engines, the two-time International Engine of the Year

This follows on from Fiesta`s global success, where it has been a bestseller in its class according to statistics from IHS Automotive and Polk. Worldwide sales for Fiesta totaled 735,299 units in 2013, earning in the top spot as the best selling subcompact car.

In South Africa Fiesta continues to enjoy strong demand. Sales figures from the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa {NAAMSA} put Fiesta at the number two position in its class, and it consistently places in the top 10 position for overall sales in the passenger car segment.

`Fiesta offers some of the most innovative technologies in its class,` says Gavin Golightly, marketing manager at Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa. `With EcoBoost and SYNC consumers have the choice of a car that fits in with their modern lifestyles, while still being economical to run.`

Local motorists are also embracing the EcoBoost engines. Year-to-date sales for Fiesta in South Africa show that 27.9 percent of all models sold featured an EcoBoost engine.
