Jaguar producing the remaining six units of Lightweight E-Type

by on May.14, 2014, under Auto Review Specs

Jaguar has announced plans to produce six units of the Lightweight E-Type and they will show the first one later in the summer.

Back in 1963 the company planned a small series of 18 units of the Lightweight E-Type but they only produced 12. The last car was assembled in 1964 while the rest of the designated chassis numbers were never used, until now. Jaguar`s first ever `recreation` project consists of producing the remaining six units of the Lightweight E-Type and all of them are going to be hand-built in-house to the exact specifications of the original cars.

Compared to the standard E-Type, the Lightweight version was 114 kg {250 lbs} lighter as a result of using aluminum for the engine block and body panels. In addition, the car came with a stripped out interior, lighter hand-operated side windows and it also lacked any chrome touches on the exterior. Like the original cars, the `new` E-Type Lightweight will be powered by the same straight-six 3.8-liter engine.

The first car will be completed in the months to come and Jaguar plans on showing it sometime in the summer.
