Peugeot 208 Cabriolet Coming in 2015 with Fabric Roof

by on Mar.31, 2014, under Auto Review Specs, Cars, Peugeot

Building convertibles based on regular family cars is like driving into an invisible wall. Sales have been on the decline for quite a few years, which means many companies are dropping their tops or is it the other way around.

But while there`s still a market, the French are willing to risk it. Especially Peugeot, spurred on by the success its new cars, which according to a recent report wants to re-capture the spirit of the 206 CC and 207 CC with a new model based on the 208.

Rather than go with a heavy and complex folding metal roof like with the old models, a lighter fabric one would reduce the complexity and the weight of the car.

Peogeot 208 Cabriolet

This is in line with philosophy which stands behind the regular 208 hatch, which is much smaller and lighter than the 207 it replaced.

When on sale in 2015, the 208 cabriolets will have an automatic mechanism that`s tucked away into the boot. Unlike its sister car from Citroen, the DS3 Cabrio, this will not keep its thick roof pillars. It will be a 2 door car, but based on the suggested 4 meter length the 2 plus 2 seating configuration is likely to be kept.

The engine choices will be carried over from the regular 208 model, going all the way up to the GTI hot hatch`s 200 hp mill. It is believed that the debut will take place at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, with sales starting shortly after from 19,000 Euro`s [in France for a base model with a 1.2 VTi 82 engine].

Jaguar F-Type is About to Get Even Better

by on Mar.31, 2014, under Auto Review Specs, Jaguar

It`s called cutting weight and adding power for a street-legal track car.

Jaguar has promised that it won`t stop with the new F-Type R Coupe -more extreme versions will arrive at some point. This supercharged V8 coupe is already beyond impressive, but there`s a new rumour claiming that Jaguar is about to take awesome to an even higher altitude.

 Jaguar F type_April

Sources are claiming that Jaguar is well into development of an F-Type Coupe Club Sport, a new trim that could see as much as 440 lbs. shaved off for some true track day performance.

Obviously it`ll be street legal and would feature more aggressive aerodynamics, racing-style carbon fibre seats, and lightweight carbon fibre body panels.

We`re looking at a limited production of perhaps just 500 units per year. What`s particularly interesting here is that the V8 may not be the chosen engine.

The supercharged V6 isn`t being ruled out, thanks mostly to its lower weight. It all depends on finding the proper balance between desired performance and how much weight can be taken off in order to help achieve that goal. But one thing is certain: the Club Sport [or whatever it`ll be called] will only be a coupe.

Jaguar is aware that serious buyers don`t want this kind of car as a roadster. It`s called cutting weight and adding power for a street-legal track car.

Schumacher and Pals Will Get You Off the Couch!

by on Jun.10, 2013, under Auto Review Specs, Mercedes Car Reviews

4 racing talents take on one of the greatest of all time.

f1 sCHUMACKER
There are few ways to liven up a slow Sunday. This video might just do the trick, featuring Mercedes F1 driver Nico Rosberg in an SLS AMG Black Series, F1 safety car driver Bernd Maylander in an A45 AMG, former F1 pros Karl Wendlinger in an E63 AMG and Bernd Schneider in the SLS AMG GT3.

Any day at the Nurburgring with these racing vets would certainly be enough to get any racing fans’ heart pumping, but the highlight here was the friendly matchup of the four pros against F1 legend Michael Schumacher in the Silver Arrow.

Even though its a glorified promo video for Mercedes AMG. It is still amusing to watch the ever calm Schumacher take off in the Silver Arrow and handle business.

Monstrous Mercedes G63 AMG 6×6 to Enter Production

by on May.15, 2013, under Auto Review Specs, Mercedes Car Reviews

The confirmation came straight from Mercedes’ head of G Class development, Alex Harries, who said that the German company plans to build 20 to 30 6×6 trucks per year. No exact information has been released yet, but we do know a thing or two about this extreme G63 AMG.Mercedes -Benz G63 AMG 6x6

First of all, it wasn’t build from scratch. The Stuttgart-based automaker used a special 6-wheeled military version of the G320 CDI built for the Australian army since 2011 as a base model. The civilian version benefits from the all-wheel drive system with five differential locks, but gains the G63 AMG’s 5.5-liter V8 for an output of 536 HP and 560 lb-ft of torque.

So now it’s not just huge (almost 6 meters / 232 inches), but performance as well. And while we’re on the subject, Mercedes-Benz claims it will sprint from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in less than six seconds and have a top speed of 100 mph (160 km/h)! Holy cow! Of course, fuel economy is a whole different story with about just 13 mpg (18 liters / 100 km), but who cares?!

Maria Sharapova Aces Porsche Deal

by on Apr.25, 2013, under Auto Review Specs, Porsche

Tennis superstar Maria Sharapova has become Porsche’s brand ambassador, signing an initial three-year deal.

MS P 1
Russian tennis superstar Maria Sharapova has been selected by Porsche to be their first ever global brand ambassador, with the four-time Grand Slam champion set to represent the German carmaker for the next three years. While choosing a woman for the role might raise some eyebrows given almost 90 percent of 911 buyers are men, Porsche is adamant the tennis champ is the perfect match, sharing similar attributes of elegance, power and charisma. Like a Porsche, she’s also pretty hot to look at and known for making a mean grunt when at full tilt.

M S P 2
Last year, Sharapova won a white 911 Carrera S Cabrio at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart, and she can now add Porsche to her impressive commercial portfolio that includes Nike, Tag Heuer, Tiffany & Co. and Samsung that brings her in a cool $30 million a year.

Hublot Celebrates Launch Of LaFerrari Supercar With New Watch: Video

by on Apr.25, 2013, under Auto Review Specs, Cars, Ferrari

Swiss firm Hublot, maker of the world’s most expensive watch, the Bing Bang 5 Million, so named because of its $5 million pricetag, has announced a new watch celebrating Ferrari’s latest flagship supercar, the LaFerrari.
Hublot 1
The new watch, called the MP-05 “LaFerrari,” won’t set you back as much as some of Hublot’s other products, although getting one may be challenge since only 50 examples will be produced.

Hublot’s MP-05 “LaFerrari” has been designed, developed and manufactured entirely by the Swiss firm and features a 50-day power reserve–a world record power reserve for a hand-wound tourbillon watch.
Hublot 3
The 50-day power reserve is thanks to the watch’s 11-barrel design, arranged in a line just like a spinal column and interconnected so that they do not each discharge in turn but support each other. On initial glance, the design almost resembles a miniaturized version of one of Ferrari’s engines.
Hublot 2
The hour and minute are displayed to the right of the barrels, also indicated by means of one anodized black aluminum cylinder each. On their left is the cylinder indicating the power reserve. Reinforcing bars either side, made from anodized red aluminum, also bring to mind Ferrari’s signature exteriors.

The face is sapphire crystal, designed to prevent scratches, and this sits within a titanium case finished in black. More titanium and even some carbon fiber add accents to the design.

Hublot is the current timekeeper for both Ferrari and its racing division Scuderia Ferrari, having inked a five-year deal back in 2011 to become the fourth watch company to have the honor. Others have included Girard Perregaux, Panerai and Cabestan.

Lamborgini Aventador 50th Debuts in Shanghai

by on Apr.22, 2013, under Auto Review Specs, Lamborghini

Aventador revealed with upgraded engine and aero to celebrate Lamborghini’s 50 years – which about sums up how old the average Lambo buyer is, anyway.
Lam 50 Shanghai

In the run-up to the Shanghai Auto Show last week, initial images and details on an anniversary-edition Aventador leaked out all over the interwebs. By now, of course, Lamborghini has taken the wraps off the car, and has released both official photos and video of the special-edition Raging Bull. The Aventador LP720-4 50th Anniversary edition follows the Veneno in celebrating the half-century mark for the Bolognese automaker, forming part of a year-long celebration Lamborghini has in store.

It’s distinguished by a unique shade of yellow – the most popular color for new Lambos – with a redesigned aero package that’s 50 percent more efficient than the standard Aventador. The 6.5-liter V12 has been upgraded to 720 metric horsepower, and the interior mirrors the bodywork with black and yellow leather, uniquely stitched in a Q-Citura pattern which Lamborghini introduced on this special-edition supercar. Only 100 examples will be made, which is barely a drop in the bucket of the 1,000 Aventadors Lamborghini sells annually – twice as many as it did the Murcielago before it.

To showcase the new Anniversario edition Aventador, Sant’Agata released this brief video clip that aptly illustrates the gap between the age at which most first fall in love with Lamborghinis and that of those who actually buy them. See what we mean in the promo clip below.

Maserati GranSport Back on the Table?

by on Apr.22, 2013, under Cars, Maserati Quattroporte

Rumor has it that the on-again, off-again Maserati version of the Alfa 4C could be back on the table. Our guess: a twin-turbo V6 could be just the ticket.
Mas GranSport

On again, off again. That’s been the saga of the rumored Maserati GranSport. The idea emerged shortly after Alfa Romeo unveiled the 4C concept, a vehicle which sister-company Maserati will build for Alfa just like it did with the previous 8C Competizione and Spyder. Harald Wester, who presides over both the brands, has hinted that Maserati would like to do its own version. But while recent reports indicated that Maserati had scrapped such plans, the latest indicate that it could be back on the table.
Mas GranSport 2
The apparent trouble is that, while the Alfa 4C’s carbon monocoque chassis makes for an excellent starting point, shoehorning in a larger engine (like the V8 Maserati was earlier reportedly considering) could throw the balance way off. Has the Trident marque found a way around the problem? Auto Express seems to think so, but then it’s been known to exaggerate, and all it seems to be going on at the moment is a response Wester reportedly gave to journalists in Shanghai asking about the prospect of a Maserati version of the 4C: “It’s a nice idea,” is all he said.
Mas GranSport 3
Maserati was in Shanghai to unveil a pair of V6-powered sedans, which only makes us wonder if the Modenese automaker could be preparing to slot its new twin-turbo six into the 4C’s chassis. (It would, after all, split the difference between the four-cylinder Alfa and the eight-cylinder Ferrari 458 Italia, from which it would need to steer clear). In the Ghibli and Quattroporte, the V6 is offered in 330- and 410-horsepower specifications, both of which are significantly more than the 4C’s 237 hp – which is still enough to rocket the Alfa to 62 in 4.5 seconds. Add an extra turbocharger and a couple of cylinders and just imagine what Maserati’s version could do.
