BMW MZ8 rendered

by on Apr.15, 2013, under BMW 6 Series

Honoring the 8-Series and Z8

Designer Christophe Jourd’hui created a BMW MZ8 render as a tribute to the 8-Series and Z8 models.

The BMW 8-Series was manufactured between the years 1989 and 1999, while the Z8 was on sale from 1999 until 2003. Christophe Jourd’hui merged the designs of these two cars but in a more futuristic approach to create the MZ8. He graduated from the International School of Design (IDS) in Valenciennes, France.BMW MX8_3

The French designer conceived the MZ8 with a removable hardtop and a more aggressive shark nose, together with a new look of the firm’s traditional double-kidney grille. Christophe Jourd’hui gives an explanation of his work at the source link below.

BMW releases photos of its i3 city car undergoing winter testing via Facebook

BMW recently had decided to build more anticipation for their latest sustainable mobility model, the up and coming BMW i3 city car.

No additional details were shared, other than the fact that BMW is still testing its i3 car, as can be seen in the shared photos of the i3 motoring about on a winter test track.

From what is known so far, the i3 will feature a plug-in electric hybrid powertrain that consists of a 170hp electric motor that also churns out 184 lb-ft of torque. 0-60 passes by in 7.9 seconds while the i3 is estimated to travel around 80-100 miles on a single charge.

To alleviate the concerns with range anxiety, BMW will also offer an optional range-extending engine that’s supposedly a carryover item from one of BMW’s two-cylinder motorcycles.

G-Power BMW X6 Typhoon RS V10: the world’s fastest SUV

German tuner G-Power has created the world’s fastest SUV.

The G-Power BMW X6 Typhoon RS V10 rockets from 0-100km/h in 4.2 seconds and 0-200km/h in 13 seconds on its way to its 330km/h top speed, making it quicker than any SUV before it.

The BMW X6M, on which the Typhoon RS is based, is powered a turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 developing 408kW/680Nm, although G-Power opted to substitute the standard engine for the E60 M5 V10 as the starting point for its super-SUV.

And while the Typhoon’s weight has been reduced to 2230kg (150kg less than the standard model), it’s still a considerable mass that is pulled up by a high-tech brake system that includes 410mm carbon-ceramic discs and six-pot calipers (also 50 per cent lighter than the standard car’s brake system).

Inside is more G-Power customisation designed for the complete super-sport experience. The heavily bolstered racing-style seats are made from ultra-light carbon and there’s a high-end audio system.

Production will be limited to just five units and pricing will start from €675,000 ($865,000)

BMW Unveils M6 Grand Coupe with 560 HP

BMW has given their coolest four-door, the 6-Series Gran Coupe a new heart that beats to the sound of M. Yes, the brand new M6 Gran Coupe is an official

speed machine, arriving next year with to take on anything that’s stupid enough to challenge it.

The M6 Gran Coupe’s biggest attraction is the engine under the bonnet. It’s the same 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8, borrowed from the X5 M and updated to the later S63Tü spec for the M5 and M6. It makes 560 PS (553 HP) and also produces 680Nm (501 lb-ft).

Despite having a little extra weight to carry around, the M6 with four doors still gets from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds, which is the same as the M6 coupe and faster than the M5 saloon. Top speed is limited to just 50km/h (155mph), but can be increased to 305km/h (189mph) with optional M Driver’s package for a bit of extra cash.

The BMW Concept 4 Series Coupe.

The BMW Concept 4 Series Coupe.

The BMW Concept 4 Series Coupe.

BMW has revealed its latest model – the 4 Series Coupe. It is effectively the next generation of the 3 Series Coupe and Convertible but BMW wants it to be a standalone model, in a similar way to Audi with the A5 range. Available initially as a coupe and later a convertible, the 4 Series is still technically a concept but it’s set to go on sale – with minimal changes – by the end of 2013.
The idea is that the 4 Series will have a sportier edge than the 3 Series Coupe but will still retain the familiar sleek profile of the model it will replace. It’s longer and wider though with a bigger wheelbase which means better interior space and improvements in handling too. There is of course the familiar BMW front end, shared with the latest 3 Series – the concept car has full LED headlights – while the rear end echoes the larger 6 Series.

There are also vents in the front wings – what BMW calls the Air Breather. These work with the large lower grille to minimise drag around the front wheels in order help improve fuel economy. The same shape of the lower front grille is repeated at the rear although the production car will get traditional circular exhausts rather than the flat rectangular ones on the concept.
Although the engine line-up hasn’t been confirmed you can unsurprisingly expect the familiar BMW line-up with an entry 420i model along with a 430i and a top 435i version. The diesels will inlclude the impressive 420d plus six-cylinder 430d and 435d models. A six-speed manual will come as standard with an optional eight-speed automatic. There are also rumours of a four-wheel drive version of the 420i to compete with the Audi A5 quattro.

BMW i8 Concept Roadster

BMW i8 Concept Roadster

BMW i8 Concept Roadster

BMW i8 Concept Roadster

The BMW i8 concept roadster – the third model in the company’s electric ‘i’ line-up – will be shown at this month’s Los Angeles motor show.

Previously seen earlier this year at the Beijing motor show, the roadster concept uses the same carbonfibre construction as the i8 coupé, which is due to launch in 2013.

Unlike the coupe’s 2+2 layout, the roadster is a strict two-seater and has a shallow rear deck in place of the coupé’s sloping roof-line.

BMW has not confirmed how the roof mechanism will work, although a lift-out panel – also made from carbonfibre – is the most likely option.

The i8 roadster will use the same drivetrain configuration as the coupé, meaning a 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine developing 220bhp and driving the rear wheels, while an electric motor, with the equivalent of around 134bhp driving the fronts.

BMW i8 Concept Roadster

The configuration allows the i8 to operate in front, rear and all-wheel drive, as well as in combustion, electric and combined modes. The positioning of the motors over each axle, and the battery pack in a central tunnel, also allows BMW to stick to its famous 50/50 weight distribution.

With a total of 354bhp, the i8 roadster will have a 0-60mph time of 4.6 seconds. As with all BMWs, the top speed is limited to 155mph.

Despite the performance on offer, thanks to its efficient petrol engine and battery power, the i8 Roadster will average around 104mpg. The lithium-ion battery pack will also allow for electric-only driving for up to 20 miles, and can be fully charged in just 1hr 45mins using a high-voltage outlet.

BMW has revealed its latest TwinPower petrol and diesel engines

by on Sep.26, 2012, under Auto Review Specs, Bmw Car Reviews, Cars

BMW has revealed its latest TwinPower petrol and diesel engines, a turbocharged 1.5-litre three-cylinder unit designed for a forthcoming range of compact front-drive models due in late 2013.

Also likely to serve in both the next Mini and as a preliminary power source for the i8 plug-in hybrid sports car, the tiny triple joins the closely-related 2.0-litre four-cylinder and 3.0-litre six-cylinder ‘Efficient Dynamics’ engines that power the majority of the current  BMW  range. As reported today, BMW’s front-drive Compact Active Tourer plug-in hybrid will feature this engine alongside a small electric motor when it makes its public debut at the Paris motor show on September 27.

The 1.5-litre engines are said to feature an unsurpassed degree of commonality, sharing up to 60 per cent of components and designed to be built on the same production line for the first time, allowing BMW to streamline its manufacturing and cut development costs.  BMW says this strategic commonality – similar to programs undertaken by the likes of Volkswagen and Volvo – is a key factor in the expansion of its current portfolio, likely pointing the future range of front- and all-wheel-drive compacts.

The new family of engines is based upon optimised cylinder modules, each with a capacity of about 500cc, designed for thermodynamic efficiency and smooth operation – the latter trait is said to carry over to the “remarkably smooth” 1.5-litre triple.

BMW claims the petrol can develop anywhere between 90kW/180Nm and 150kW/270Nm, while the diesels will produce between 75kW/225Nm and 135kW/300Nm.

All BMW’s TwinPower engines use an aluminium block, double Vanos infinitely variable cam-control, Valvetronic variable cam-timing and direct injection, with the option of single- twin- or triple-turbochargers. The automatic transmission to be available with this engine has been “given the gift of site”, using data from the navigation system to plot the course ahead and make suitable adjustments in advance rather than on-the-fly.
